Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi participated in the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) Meeting of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, today. Addressing the Plenary, Foreign Minister stated that Pakistan's membership of SCO is an acknowledgement of the significance that Pakistan attaches to regional peace, stability, common development and prosperity. He shared Pakistan's vision of peaceful and prosperous neighborhood underpinned by win-win partnerships. In this context, he highlighted the pivotal role of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, especially for landlocked, energy-rich Central Asian states. The Foreign Minister highlighted Pakistan's sacrifices and achievements in counter-terrorism. He expressed Pakistan's willingness to share its experiences and expertise in this field. He also emphasized the need to address the root causes of terrorism. The Foreign Minister stressed that enduring peace and prosperity in South Asia hinged on good-faith diplomacy and result-oriented dialogue. The Foreign Minister also underscored the importance of achieving durable and long-lasting peace in Afghanistan and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to facilitate the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan. The Foreign Minister presented seven-point agenda to sustain SCO's high momentum in its march towards attaining peace, stability and prosperity in the SCO region. He, inter-alia, noted the importance of dispute resolution mechanism and confidence building measures among member states, arresting missile defence systems and keeping outer space free of weapons, measures to combat drug trafficking and corruption, synergizing various connectivity initiatives under SCO, and vitalizing SCO financial and trade mechanisms. During the Meeting, the Foreign Ministers of SCO Member States finalized the programme and agenda for the meeting of the SCO Council of the Heads of State to be held on 13-14 June in Bishkek. Later, a signing ceremony was held in which various decisions and documents were adopted. Prior to the Meeting, the Foreign Minister along with the Foreign Ministers of other SCO member states paid a joint call on the President of Kyrgyz Republic, His Excellency Sooronbay Jeenbekov. On the sidelines of CFM, the Foreign Minister held bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of China, Russia, Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan.
