On 15th July 2025, Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu, Mr. Tanvir A. Bhatti, made an official visit to the Institute of Urban Agriculture (IUA), and met with Deputy Director General Mr. Hu Yongsong, Deputy Director General Liu Shuang, and other members of the Institute. The Institute is one of the 34 research centers falling under the Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences (CAAS), and focuses on urban food supply. Around 7 students are already studied at the institute.
The visit comes after the IUA, was selected by CAAS, as one of the places where Batch-III of the Pakistan Agriculture Professionals would come, to learn best practices. The Flagship programme was conceived by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, when he last visited China in June 2024, whereby a total of 1000 agriculture professionals would be supported by the Government of Pakistan, to undergo trainings in China, for priority sectors of Pakistan, such as agriculture mechanization, crop breeding, seafood and fisheries farming etc.
The selection of IUA marks the second institute in Sichuan province which will be welcoming the agriculture professionals, after efforts by the Consulate, owing to the provinces expertise and prowess in the agriculture sector.
During the visit, a tour of the facilities was given by Mr. Liu, and thereafter in a meeting, a detailed overview of CAAS was given, followed by remarks by the Consul General, where he not only thanked the leadership and members of the Institute for the warm welcome, but also commended the Institute for the world class facilities, which the incoming batch of Pakistani professionals would also get a lot of benefit from. The remarks were followed by a lively discussion, after which both sides agreed to keep in touch, and continue to cooperate in the future.
Deputy Consul General, and relevant members of the Consulate General were also present.
