Presenting credentials to the President of Republic of Togo assumes significance as it was in 2008 that credentials were last presented to the President of Republic of Togo by any of our envoys. Ambassador Javed Zia delivered message of the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan H.E. Mamnoon Hussain, to the President of Republic of Togo and highlighted efforts and sacrifices of Pakistan in war against terrorism, role of Pakistani forces in UN peacekeeping and the desire of Government of Pakistan to further enhance bilateral relations especially in the fields of trade and commerce.
The most significant outcome of this visit is the invitation of the Prime Minister of Togo for Pakistan to attend the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Maritime Security, Safety and Development in Africa. Pakistan is being invited due to its role in war against international terrorism.
Ambassador of Pakistan also met Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and other senior officials of the Government of Togo. Foreign Minister also offered to make a Joint Commission between the two countries besides other issues. During the meeting with President of Chamber of Commerce of Togo, both the sides agreed to increase bilateral trade and also showed willingness to sign bilateral cooperation agreement between chambers of the two countries. It may be mentioned that volume of bilateral trade between the two countries in the year 2014-15 is US$11.11 million, which has the potential to increase manifolds in future.
