MR. AAMIR SHOUKAT
Joined the Ministry of Foreign of Foreign Affairs in 1994 and since then has worked on various positions at Headquarters and abroad. He has extensive experience in bilateral & multilateral diplomacy, disarmament, diplomatic negotiations, security policies, report writing, conference management and supervising large projects. During his 27 years of diplomatic service, he has served at home and abroad on various assignments. Mr. Shouket also served in the Secretariat of the Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, located in The Hague, as Deputy Chief of Cabinet/Advisor to the Director General of the Organisation.
The postings at the Ministry include: desk officer for Economic coordination, OIC and in Human Resource Division. He has also served as Staff Officer to the Foreign Minister of Pakistan from December 1997 till July 1999. Mr. Shouket was Director Afghanistan from 2006 to 2007 and Director looking after Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) from August 2018 to February 2019. He was promoted and served in the ministry as Director General in the Europe Division, where he was dealing with the EU, NATO, OSCE, Commonwealth and the Western European Countries including the UK. He assumed duties as Ambassador of Pakistan to Switzerland on 8th September 2021.
His foreign postings include: second Secretary in Athens, Counsellor (Political) in Dhaka, Deputy Head of Mission and Deputy Permanent Representative to the Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague. He acted as coordinator of the Asian Group within OPCW and was also elected as Facilitator for discussions on issues related Article XI of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) that deals with peaceful uses of chemistry.
From November 2013 to July 2018 he was hired as Deputy Chef de Cabinet/Advisor to the Director General OPCW. In this capacity Mr. Shouket acted as DG OPCW’s liaison with OPCW-UN Joint Mission established by the UN Secretary General for elimination of chemical weapons program of Syria. He assisted the Director General and Member States during intense negotiations related to decisions taken by the Policy Making Organs of the OPCW. He also conducted weekly briefings for the OPCW member states on status of destruction of chemical weapons in Syria and the allegations of use of chemical weapons in Syria.
He holds a Masters degree in International Relations from the Australian National University Canberra and an Executive MBA in Human Resource Management from Preston University Islamabad. He has also done a diploma in Russian Language from the State Pushkin Institute in Moscow.
Mr. Shouket is married and has a daughter and son.
