Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Portugal were established on 7 November 1949. Both countries have enjoyed cordial relations during these years. At the international level, both countries have supported each other, including candidatures and on several issues of global importance. Bilateral trade has been growing in recent years. The number of Pakistani diaspora is also increasing in Portugal.
The Embassy of Pakistan in Portugal organized a series of events to commemorate the completion of 75 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Portugal, including an event in collaboration with the University of Coimbra, organized at the University campus on 28 February 2025.
President Asif Ali Zardari visited Portugal from 9 to 11 February 2025. The President met with His Highness Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V to convey condolences on the passing of His Highness Prince Karim al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV. President Asif Ali Zardari also held a meeting with the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.




Three rounds of Bilateral Political Consultations have been held. The Third Round of Bilateral Political Consultations was held in Lisbon on 13 April 2023. The Fourth Round of the Bilateral Political Consultations will be held in Islamabad.
