Secretary (Asia, Oceania & Russia) Ambassador Reinaldo Salgado of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) and Pakistan’s Ambassador in Brazil Mr. Najm us Saqib have expressed satisfaction over the steady pace of strengthening relations between Pakistan and Brazil in all fields. During a detailed meeting at Itamaraty today, bilateral relations were reviewed with a view to finding additional avenues of cooperation. Head of Asia, Oceania & Russia Division of Itamaraty Ambassador Ary Quintella was also present.
The Secretary and Ambassador discussed ways and means to have early finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation and noted with satisfaction the recently concluded successful visit of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan General Zubair Mahmood Hayat to Brazil. The MoU on Defence Cooperation is expected to be signed in Brasilia soon.
The two sides reviewed the progress made in the implementation of the Agreement on Technical Cooperation signed between the two countries in August 2018. Through this Agreement, Pakistan and Brazil have agreed to promote technical cooperation in important areas such as agriculture, livestock, health, education and professional qualification.
Exchange of views between the Parliamentarians of both countries was also came under discussion. The details of a Parliamentary visit from Pakistan to Brazil during 2019 were discussed while both sides agreed to have frequent Parliamentary interaction for increased people to people contacts.
Both sides decided to hold the Fifth Annual Bilateral Political Consultations during 2019. The Consultations provide a befitting platform for both countries to share views on international and regional issues as well as finding ways to strengthen bilateral relations especially in the economic and trade fields.
Pakistan and Brazil enjoy friendly and cordial relations and both countries are working towards strengthening bilateral relations in different fields.
