Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar’s meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Mr. Koichiro Gemba on the sidelines of UNGA Session
United Nations, September 21: Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, met her Japanese counterpart of the 66th session of the General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. She felicitated him on his well-deserved elevation to the august office.
Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba expressed sympathy for the affectees of recent floods in Pakistan. He informed that the Japanese Government has decided to provide $ 10 million emergency grant aid for flood relief in addition to its earlier relief aid for flood affectees.
Foreign Minister Khar briefed her Japanese counterpart on counter-terrorism efforts and on the evolving security situation in the region including Afghanistan. She expressed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the stability and security of Afghanistan. Both leaders strongly condemned the assassination of ProfessorBurhanuddin Rabbani, in Kabul on 20 September 2011.
Both Ministers reviewed the existing economic cooperation between the two countries. Japanese development projects in Pakistan in social sectors like education and health and the promotion of investment in Pakistan by the Japanese companies also figured in the discussions.
Both sides agreed to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Japan in a befitting manner by enhancing interactions in cultural field and by focusing on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
