Last evening, the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament approved the Single Delegated Act which aims to give greater trade access to ten countries, including Pakistan under the Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP Plus). The Single Delegated Act will now be approved by the European Parliament in December 2013. After approval by the European Parliament, the Act will come into effect from 1st of January 2014.
In the run up to the voting in the Trade Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our Embassies abroad, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, ran a focussed campaign to enlist support by the EU Governments and members of European Parliament.
European Union is Pakistan’s key partner in peace and development. The approval of the GSP Plus reflects the commitment of the European Union to its relations with Pakistan. We are grateful to all European institutions and members of the Parliament for their support on the GSP Plus.
