Meeting of the Foreign Minister with the President of the United Nations General Assembly

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with Mr. Abdulla Shahid, President of the 76th session of United Nations General Assembly (PGA), at the UN headquarters in New York.

The Foreign Minister congratulated Mr. Shahid on his election as the PGA. He expressed the hope that the PGA would help guide the General Assembly towards consensus-based progress on important issues on the United Nations agenda.

The Foreign Minister and the PGA discussed the urgent need to effectively address the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation and exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PGA affirmed his commitment to work closely with Pakistan during his one-year term in office to successfully discharge his mandate. The Foreign Minister assured him of Pakistan’s full support and cooperation in that regard.
