Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir met today (25 September 2013) in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The Secretary General of the OIC, Prof. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu chaired the meeting which was attended by the delegations of Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Niger. The delegation of Azerbaijan also attended as the new member of the Contact Group. The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and True Representative of the Kashmiri people also attended.
Addressing the Contact Group, the Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz, appreciated OIC’s consistent advocacy of the Kashmir cause. The Advisor affirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle to achieve their right to self determination, drew attention of the Contact Group to the atrocities and human rights violations by the Indian security apparatus, and called for an early resolution of the dispute based on the UN Security Council resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The OIC Secretary General expressed OIC’s firm commitment, solidarity and unwavering support for the Kashmiri people. The Foreign Minister of Turkey and senior officials of Saudi Arabia, Niger and Azerbaijan also expressed their support for the long struggle of the Kashmiri people to achieve their legitimate right to self-determination.
The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the True Representative of the Kashmiri People (Mr. Ishtyaq Hameed of APHC) thanked OIC for its support and urged greater efforts by the Ummah to assist in finding a just solution of this dispute. The True Representative of the Kashmiri people presented a Memorandum to the OIC Secretary General. The OIC Contact Group adopted a report of the meeting.
