Speaking at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial meeting held in New York on 27 September 2013 on the sidelines of the General Assembly, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz, reiterated the Governments’ resolve to create a democratic and prosperous polity in Pakistan. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire for a peaceful, stable and prosperous neighborhood through enhanced economic cooperation and resolution of outstanding issues peacefully.

On the issue of terrorism, the Adviser stressed that military means alone do not suffice to defeat terrorism. He underlined the need for evolving a multi-dimensional strategy that included dialogue, economic opportunities, resolution of long-standing political disputes and hope and justice.

The Adviser noted that disarmament and non-proliferation mutually reinforce each other and are essential to ensuring international peace and security. Drawing attention to new strains on international rules and norms in regard to access to nuclear energy on political and commercial grounds, the Adviser called on NAM for adherence to rule of law and globally agreed norms.

The Chair of NAM (Iranian President), President of the General Assembly, UN Secretary General and several other Ministers addressed the meeting.
