(2013-03-18) The President of Egypt H.E. Dr. Mohamed Morsy accompanied by H.E. General Mohamed Abdel Fatah El-Sisi, Commander-In-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Minister of Defence and Military Production, H.E. Mr. Mohamed KamelAmr, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt and a high level delegation paid a State visit to Pakistan on 18 March, 2013, upon the invitation of the President of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Asif Ali Zardari. President Morsy held a one-on-one meeting with the President, and after delegation level talks, the President hosted a banquet/luncheon for President Morsy. The Chief of Army Staff called upon President Morsy. President Morsy was conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Philosophy by the Prime Minister of Pakistan who is Chancellor of the National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad (NUST).
The two Presidents also witnessed the signing of seven MoUs/Agreements that would further strengthen the institutional mechanism for bilateral cooperation. The MoUs signed were :i) MoU for Cooperation in Postal Services; ii) MoU for Cooperation in the field of Merchant Shipping; iii) MoU for Promotion of Investment between Board of Investment (BoI) of Pakistan and General Authority of Free Zones and Investment (GAFI) of Egypt; iv) MoU for Cooperation between Middle East News Agency (MENA) and Associated Press of Pakistan (APP); v) Cooperation between Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) of Pakistan and Social Fund for Development (SFD) of Egypt; vi) Scientific Cooperation between Quaid-e-Azam University of Pakistan and Cairo University of Egypt; and vii) 3rd Executive Programme for Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
The President congratulated President Morsy on being the first civilian democratically and freely elected President of Egypt. The President hailed the success of the peaceful revolution in Egypt that has set her on the road to democracy, freedom and social justice.
The President deeply appreciated the gesture of President Morsy to choose Pakistan as the first South Asian country for a bilateral visit.
President Morsy expressed his deep desire to cultivate close relations with Pakistan and stated that Pakistan and Egypt are two pillars of the Islamic World which have an important role to play in the Ummah as well as in the region.
The Presidents discussed the entire gamut of bilateral relations including important regional and international matters of mutual concern. A Joint Statement was issued at the conclusion of visit.
