Ambassador JauharSaleem held a meeting with the Pakistani community leaders. The meeting was conducted virtually in view of the prevailing circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his address on the occasion, the Ambassador appreciated the role of Pakistani community in Italy in the face of the unprecedented crisis and extended condolences at the tragic loss of lives for those compatriots who fell victim to Covid-19, and prayed for the speedy recovery of those recuperating from the virus infection.
He appreciated the community’s exemplary cooperation during the crisis and advised them to follow the local rules and regulations to keep themselves and others safe.
Amb. Saleem highlighted the fact that despite lockdown in the country, the Embassy and the Sub-mission in Milan extended all possible assistance to the community through provision of food baskets, gloves, masks, and financial help. About 130 stranded Pakistani stranded passengers at the airport were helped and shuttled back to their homes at the expense of the embassy.
He looked forward to an extensive interaction with the community, once the pandemic was contained.
A lively interactive session followed where the ambassador patiently listened and responded various queries and suggestions of the community members. The community was informed that a special charter PIA flight had been arranged for transportation of the dead bodies, and efforts were underway to arrange special flights for passengers as well.
The community leaders appreciated the positive role played by our Missions in Rome and Milan during the peak of pandemic and assured of their full cooperation.
