Ambassador of Pakistan in Rome, Mr. Ali Javed, has held a constructive meeting with Senator H.E. Hon. Giulio Terzi Di Sant’Agata at latter’s Chambers. Both dignitaries reviewed full spectrum of their strategic cooperation, mechanism and exchanges, regional & global dynamics. The Senator is former Foreign Minister and currently chairs Italian Senate’s Committee for EU Policy.
Senator Terzi welcomed Pakistan’s 8th tenure on UN Security Council and expressed confidence in bilateral cooperation over UN Reform through ‘Uniting for Consensus’ (UfC) platform, both nations being its co-founding partners.
Hon. Senator praised Pakistan’s principled position over upholding UN Charter and International Law and the longstanding bilateral tradition of support for each other’s candidatures and coordination of positions at UN.
Excellency Terzi noted Pakistan’s prominent contributions to UN Peacekeeping Missions and War on Terror and expressed solidarity with families of victims of recent terrorist attack targeting innocent worshipers in outskirts of Islamabad.
Hon. Terzi noted rising bilateral trade, leadership exchanges in political, defence & security domains and advanced technical cooperation in Agriculture, Marble, Olive Cultivation, Archaeology as well as Education and Culture. He praised growing size of Pakistani community and students in Italy.
Characterising 125-years long bilateral ties as ‘historically seamless & trust-based’, Ambassador appreciated consistently principled support from Italy at UN & EU and reaffirmed resolve to deepening bilateral strategic cooperation.
Ambassador underscored efforts to curb international phenomenon of illegal migration evidenced through falling numbers from Pakistan in 2024 & 2025 and accorded briefing on forthcoming 1st Session of ‘Quad for Migration’ (Q4M) meeting among Ministers for Interior of Pakistan, Greece, Italy & Spain scheduled for 24.2.25 at Rome.
Welcoming May 7, 2025 signing of ‘MoU for Migration & Labor Mobility’, Hon. Terzi outlined efforts to address abuse of ‘irregular workers’ by providing security in terms of legal & social protection. He also reaffirmed support for students’ visas.
Senator Terzi outlined EU’s evolving Immigration Policy and while commending ‘Q4M’ compatibility with EU, he pledged support for capacity enhancement of Pakistani Law Enforcement Agencies, both domestically and via EU.
Pakistanis in Italy are estimated above 300,000 including 4000 students, whereas bilateral trade crossed $2.3Bn in 2025. Q4M is an initiative from Islamabad to promote regular and deter irregular migration between Pakistan & EU.
