Ambassador Saima Sayed visited The Gambia and presented copies of her credentials to Dr. Mamadou Tangara, Foreign Minister of The Gambia, on October 6, 2023. Ambassador Saima Sayed is concurrently accredited to The Gambia as well.
During the meeting, Ambassador Sayed discussed with the Gambian Foreign Minister all aspects of the fraternal bilateral relations between Pakistan and The Gambia. Both sides reiterated to work together to finalise MoUs already under consideration and to explore new avenues of collaboration. Foreign Minister Tangara highlighted the positive role of the Pakistani diaspora in The Gambia. He also invited Pakistani businessmen to visit The Gambia for enhancing trade engagements.
Dr. Tangara also mentioned the regular participation of The Gambian Diplomats in the courses at the Foreign Service Academy (FSA) of Pakistan. The Permanent Secretary (Foriegn Secretary) of the Gambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared that he was also an alumnus of FSA, Islamabad.
Foreign Minister Tangara expressed his condolences on the demise of Pakistani Justice Ali Nawaz Chohan who had served as Chief Justice of The Gambia from February 2014-May 2015 and had been appointed as the Hon. Consul of The Gambia in Islamabad last year. Foreign Minister Tangara expressed the desire to nominate a new Hon Consul for The Gambia in Pakistan.
Ambassador Sayed conveyed best wishes of the Government of Pakistan for the upcoming OIC Summit to be held in The Gambia in December 2023 and reiterated Pakistan’s full support for the government of The Gambia in organising this important event.
