Ambassador of Pakistan to Italy Mr. Ali Javed and Police Chief of Italian Republic, Prefect Vittorio Pisani, held review of bilateral Police & Consular Cooperation at Italian Police Headquarters, Rome.
Mr. Claudio Galzerano, Central Director for Immigration & Border Police, Mr. Stefano Carvelli, Italian Interpol Rep among other Senior Officials from Italian side whereas DHM Mr. Naveed Shahzad and 2nd Secretary Mr. Muhsin Hasan participated from Embassy and Mr. Asmatullah Junejo, FIA Link Officer and Mr. Waqar Ali Khan, Community Welfare Attaché travelled from Milan Consulate.
Marked by sentiments of mutual trust, the 45-min interaction reviewed trajectory of bilateral police and consular cooperation and while expressing satisfaction over ‘Bilateral Consular Consultations’ and signing of ‘MoU for Migration & Labour Mobility’, on 1.2.25 and 7.5.25 respectively in Islamabad, noted positive outcomes of the 15.9.25 1st Joint Working Group held in Rome under the MoU.
Ambassador welcomed Italian Police Chief’s proposal for broadening counter-terrorism partnership, deepening & diversifying cooperation between Police Forces through exchange of visits, technical collaboration and trainings.
Noting the recently announced labor quotas for Pakistan for 2000 Seasonal and 1500 Non-Seasonal workforce each year for next 3 years, Police Chief expressed support for organising 2nd JWG due in Islamabad in April 2026.
Both sides welcomed finalisation of draft texts for Treaties for Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance and resolved to finalise under-consideration accord for Transfer of Prisoners. Status of int’l cooperation via Interpol and pending cases was also discussed along with status and welfare of Pakistanis detained in Italy.
Highlighting academic credentials of 4,000 Pakistani students pursuing higher studies in Italy, Ambassador presented list of 2,000 students awaiting visa appointments. Police Chief praised constructive contributions by Pakistani community and reiterated continued support for streamlining students’ visas.
Both dignitaries earlier met in Jan 2024. Pak-Italy signed Dual Citizenship Agreement in 1981. Italy is Pakistan’s 6th largest trading partner & export destination. The 300,000 Pakistanis in Italy rank #1 across Europe (save UK).
