The 80th Independence Day of Pakistan was commemorated with traditional zeal and fervor at the Embassy of Pakistan in Abidjan, this morning. Pakistani Diaspora members along with families attended the event.
Ambassador Mahmood Akhtar Mahmood raised the National Flag to the tune of National Anthem. The ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Special messages of the President, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister /Foreign Minister for the occasion were read out. A special documentary commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was screened for the audience, in addition to a digital photo exhibition showcasing the life of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Videos about Balochistan’s Mehrgarh and Baluchitherium (one of the largest land mammals ever to walk the Earth) were also shown to raise awareness about rich heritage of Pakistan.
In his remarks, Ambassador Mahmood Akhtar Mahmood paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Movement and all those who gave up their homes, security and livelihoods in the struggle for a homeland.
Keeping in view the significance of the day Pakistani children also delivered the speeches. A dedicated corner exhibiting Pakistan’s landscape and art was arranged on the sidelines of the event.
A cake cutting ceremony was also held on the occasion. The event ended with special prayers for the prosperity of Pakistan and its people.
