A flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Lisbon today to commemorate the 78^th Independence Day of Pakistan. A large number of Pakistani community members including women, children, and the Embassy officials participated in the ceremony.

The Ambassador of Pakistan to Portugal, Dr. Muhammad Khalid Ejaz, hoisted the flag at the tune of the national anthem. Messages of the President, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister were read to the audience.

In his remarks, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Khalid Ejaz paid tribute to the freedom struggle that led to the independence of Pakistan. He emphasized the need of serving the nation with the same commitment and resolve. He commended the role of the Pakistani community in Portugal in promoting the people-to-people contact.

He concluded by reiterating the resolve to follow the principles of unity, faith and discipline as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
