An event was held at the Pakistan High Commission, Dhaka to observe Kashmir Black Day. A large number of people from various walks of life including Bangladeshi students, journalists, academicians and members of Pakistani diaspora attended the event. A photo exhibition highlighting atrocities of the Indian occupation forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) was also organised.
Students and human rights activists in their speeches highlighted that Kashmir Black Day marks the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by the Indian forces on October 27, 1947. Since then, India has unleashed a reign of tyranny to subjugate the Kashmiri people and suppress their voice for freedom. The Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the globe observe 27 October as a Black Day. This day is not just a reminder of the struggles faced by our Kashmiri brothers and sisters but also a call to action for all those who believe in justice, human rights, and the international law and norms.
The speakers underscored that Indian occupation forces continue to use brute force and commit grave human rights violations against the people of IIOJK. They stressed that the international community should urge India to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through a free and fair plebiscite in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSC) and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
In his remarks, High Commissioner Imran Haider noted that on 27 October India forcibly occupied Jammu and Kashmir by landing its army in Srinagar against the will of the Kashmiri people. For over seven decades, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have endured grave sufferings and hardships. The ongoing military occupation has led to the violation of fundamental human rights including the right to life, liberty, and freedom of expression. The High Commissioner reiterated that Pakistan will continue to extend all possible diplomatic, moral, and political support to the Kashmiris until the realization of their inalienable Right to Self-determination.
