Honorable Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for National Food Security & Research, is representing Pakistan at 179th Session of Council of United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO), being held at Rome from 1–5 December 2025.
Addressing the Council, Hon’ble Minister condemned repeated Israeli ceasefire violations and expressed serious concerns at catastrophic humanitarian and food crisis in Gaza.
The Minister commended FAO’s effort in continuing to operate in Gaza under extreme dangerous conditions and called for an enforcement of ceasefire, inflow of unrestricted humanitarian aid , international action to prevent further loss of life and to avert a full-scale famine.
Pakistan is FAO’s founding member and is elected to FAO Council for the term 2024–2026.
Pakistan has been elected by consensus to continue its stint on the Council unopposed for another term during 2027 to 2029, which reflects international community’s confidence in Pakistan’s longstanding experience and outstanding services to FAO.
The period is critical for FAO’s forthcoming intra-institutional reforms.
Pakistan also holds membership of FAO Finance Committee, enabling a key role in shaping FAO’s budgetary & administrative policies.
On margins of Council, Hon’ble Minister is scheduled to hold key bilateral engagements including with DG FAO and Italian Minister for Agriculture.
Pakistan remains steadfast in supporting FAO’s strategic framework through sustained, proactive engagement & meaningful cooperation.
