Hon’ble Minister for Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development (OP&HRD) Chaudhry Salik Hussain held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Matteo Piantedosi, Minister of Interior of Italy in Rome earlier today. The Pakistani Minister is on a 3-day bilateral visit to Italy.

H.E. Minister Piantedosi underscored Italy’s recognition of Pakistani community’s valuable contributions to Italy’s development and reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to implementing the recently signed MoU for Migration & Labour Mobility. Both Ministers emphasized strengthening bilateral cooperation while welcoming Inaugural session of the JWG held in Rome on 15.09.2025.

The meeting reaffirmed shared resolve of both States to expand opportunities for Pakistan’s workforce in Italy while safeguarding the rights of workers and addressing challenges of irregular migration. Both sides agreed to sustain high-level engagement to translate the MoU into tangible outcomes.

Minister Chaudhry handed over an invitation to H.E. Minister Piantedosi from hon’ble Interior Minister of Pakistan Mr. Mohsin Naqvi for a bilateral visit to Pakistan. H.E. Piantedosi, fondly recalling his earlier bilateral visit to Pakistan in May 2025, warmly welcomed the invitation.

Pakistani diaspora in Italy has remitted an unprecedented USD 1.121 Bn to Pakistan in 2024. Italy also remains one of Pakistan’s leading trading partners in Europe, with bilateral trade reaching USD 1.5 Bn in 2024 and Pakistan enjoying a surplus of USD 800 mn.

The meeting was marked by mutual sentiments of trust & respect centred on strong people-to-people linkages and shared vision and interests.
