Embassy lauds finalisation of Agreement for Agriculture, Technical & Vocational Education & Trainings (TVET) signed between Secretary EAD and Italian Ambassador in presence of officials from Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), Ministry of Nat’l Food Security and Provincial departments.
The Accord complements Pakistan's agricultural potential with Italy’s agronomic expertise through knowledge & technology transfer in, but not limited to, ‘climate-resilient farming’, ‘orchard management’ and ‘agri-food value chains’.
Focusing ‘high value crops’ such as Pakistani Pistachios to Cherries, Almonds to Dates as well as Olives grown across four Provinces of Pakistan through Italy’s CIHEAM Bari Institute’s ongoing ‘Olive Culture Scale-Up Project’, the accord aims to strength local industries, augment product quality and diversify exports.
It also foresees establishment of ‘Centres of Excellence’ for scientific research and processing for Citrus & Dates at Sargodha & Turbat. Additionally, 12 Model-Orchards and Nurseries, 8 Climate-Smart Eco-Villages and 5 Agri-Food processing facilities shall be setup to generate rural employment, enhance farmer incomes, reduce post-harvest losses and lift overall competitiveness via 720 specialized courses for 1800 targeted farmers, including women over next 42 months.
Recalling accords abolishing visas for Diplomatic passports and export of Pakistani workforce to Italy signed on 27.5.26 and 7.5.25 respectively, the Embassy appreciates Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its development cooperation arm ‘AICS’ towards concluding the TVET Agreement, and renews commitment to diversifying institutional frameworks between the two friendly nations.
