In order to commemorate the death anniversary of Maulana Jalal ud-din Rumi (R.A.) the Embassy of Pakistan in Abidjan organized a Sufi and Cultural Night under the theme “Talks of Maulana Jalal ud-din Rumi (R.A.) and Allama Muhammad Iqbal (R.A.) with relevance to present age” in the Embassy on 17 December 2025.
The event was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, National Islamic Council of Cote d’Ivoire, Supreme Council of Imams, Mosques and Islamic Affairs of Cote d’Ivoire (COSIM), and Pakistani community.
In his address, Ambassador Mahmood Akhtar Mahmood highlighted the message of universal peace, harmony, and global cohesion embodied in the works of Rumi and Iqbal. He emphasized that by embracing their teachings, we can recognize the true essence of humanity and practice interfaith coexistence. The Ambassador also underscored Iqbal’s role as Pakistan’s national poet and philosopher, noting the importance of his vision for national progress and development.
In his remarks, H.E. Mir Mohammad Meigoni Seyed Gholamreza, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, praised Iqbal’s global recognition as a poet and philosopher. He further elaborated on the philosophical and spiritual impact of Rumi’s work on Muslim society.
The event was commemorated with Sufi music reflecting deeper culture of Islam entailing upon peace and harmony as well as Iqbal’s message of development and progress by uniting all files and ranks. The attendees enjoyed the Sufi music and appreciated the message of Rumi and Iqbal especially in the context of contemporary trends around the globe.
The event concluded with special prayers for Maulana Jalal ud-din Rumi (R.A.) and Allama Muhammad Iqbal (R.A.).
