The Wheelchair Cricket Team (WCCT) of Bangladesh visited Pakistan House today for the handing over ceremony of cricket wheelchairs. Officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Physically Challenged Wing and members of the Bangladesh national cricket team including Mr. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mr. Mohammad Mahmudullah were present on the occasion.
High Commissioner Mr. Imran Haider warmly welcomed the guests. In his remarks, he noted that cricket enjoys a rich history, strong traditions and a vast following across all segments of society including specially abled persons. He observed that wheelchair cricket has emerged as an inspiring adaptation of the traditional game showcasing courage, resilience and determination. It enables athletes not only to demonstrate their skills but also to challenge societal perceptions. He appreciated the respective cricket boards for recognizing and supporting the players’ passion for the sport and their potential to contribute to its promotion.
Highlighting the shared passion for cricket in Pakistan and Bangladesh, the High Commissioner observed that cricket is one of the many bonds shared by our two brotherly nations. He noted that both countries have witnessed several cricketing encounters and have enjoyed excellent sportsmanship recently. He further remarked that like sports, bilateral relations are growing across all spheres including people to people contacts and cultural exchanges.
The Bangladesh WCCT is scheduled to participate in the 3rd T20 Wheelchair Cricket Asia Cup in 2026, which will be held in Pakistan later this year. The High Commissioner extended his best wishes for the Team Bangladesh.
