In his statement to the High Level Event on reviewing the progress made in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Prime Minister called for a renewed and strengthened global partnership that should be beyond official development assistance and be based on market access, transfer of new technologies, climate finance and domestic resource mobilization. He called upon businesses, private foundations, international organizations, civil society and parliaments to step forward to form global partnerships to implement sustainable development agenda.

Reviewing the status of MDGs in Pakistan, the Prime Minister stated that despite resource constraints his Government was committed to further reducing the incidence of poverty. He informed the General Assembly of his decision to significantly increase spending on education and health sectors. Referring to the recent earthquake, the Prime Minister underlined that Pakistan was prone to natural disasters and has, therefore, launched a ten year National Disaster Risk Reduction Policy.
