Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Chairperson Foreign Affairs Committee of Senate of Pakistan visited Baku (Azerbaijan) from 01-04 September, 2015 to participate in the 3rd Meeting of International Conference of Asian Political Party (APP) Women’s Wing. During the proceeding of the conference Senator Nuzhat was elected as one of the Chairpersons of APP Women’s Wing for the next two years.
In her address to the conference she highlighted the achievements of women of Pakistan in all walks of life and shared Pakistan government policies for the emancipation of Pakistani women in all walks of life. Her recommendations for improving the women situation in the Asian countries and her contributions in the conference proceedings were highly lauded by other participants.
On the sidelines of the events Senator Nuzhat also interacted with all the representatives of the participating countries. In addition she held discussions on bilateral relations and parliamentary affairs with the leadership of Azerbaijan including Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Speaker Ms. Bahar Muradova, Chairperson State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, Ms. Hijran Huseynova, President of Pakistan-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr. Arstun Javedov, MP and Dr. Ganira Pashyev, MP. Dr. Ganira also presented her book “Pakistan Far but so Close” to the Senator.
Senator Nuzhat also held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Elmar Mammadyarov at the Foreign Office. The meeting was marked by cordiality and warmth. The two leaders express satisfaction on the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. The Senator apprised the Foreign Minister about the “Peaceful Neighbourhood” and economic policies of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. She informed the Foreign Minister that mega project of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was not exclusively for Pakistan but for the entire region. The project may be a “game – changer” to the benefit common man of South Asia and beyond. The Senator also highly appreciated the humanitarian work of Haider Aliyev Foundation under the patronage of First Lady of Azerbaijan Madam Mehraban Aliyeva in Pakistan.
They two leaders reiterated that our two countries will continue to support each others’ political causes and work together to seek durable solution of Nogorno-Karabakh conflict and Jammu & Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United Nations Resolutions. They also agreed to maintain close contacts in all international forums and institutions particularly United Nations and OIC and emphasized on the people to people contacts and parliamentarians’ exchanges.
Senator Nuzhat visited Parliament of Azerbaijan, The Martyr Alley, Old Walled City (Ichari Shahar), Flag Square, newly constructed Hyder Aliyev Mosque and congratulated the Azeri leaders for the remarkable economic development that Azerbaijan has achieved in the current years.
