A ceremony for the signing of Country Cooperation Agreement between Pakistan and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) took place at the Embassy of Pakistan, Vienna, Austria. The agreement was signed by Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher and Mr. Michael Spindelegger, Director General, ICMPD. Mr. Spindelegger has served as Vice Chancellor of the Republic of Austria as well as Federal Minister for Finance and Foreign Affaires.
The agreement would institutionalize and streamline practical cooperation between Pakistan and ICMPD. The focus will be on promoting legal migration and mobility; supporting integration of Pakistani migrants abroad; fighting discrimination, racism Islamophobia and xenophobia; strengthening of positive impact of migration on development of Pakistan, enhanced border management, and prevention of irregular migration, including smuggling of migrants and traffickingin persons.
ICMPD is an international organization with 18 Member States. It was established in 1993 and currently active in more than 90 countries worldwide. Its Mission is to make migration and mobility of people orderly, safe and regular. ICMPD also acts as the Secretariat for the Budapest Process, which is a platform for interregional dialogue on migration stretching from Europe to the Silk Routes regions.
