Mr. Jeffrey D. Feltman, the UN Under-Secretary-General of Political Affairs is visiting Pakistan for talks with the Government of Pakistan from 24-25 March, 2013. He also called on the President of Pakistan today.

The President, recalling Pakistan’s consistent and constructive engagement with the United Nations since independence, said that Pakistan valued the United Nations as the most important multilateral institution. He expressed satisfaction that Pakistan had contributed positively on a host of issues including international peace and security, development, human rights and climate change at the United Nations fora. The President also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and security in the region and world at large. The President added that Pakistan looked forward to a visit by the UN Secretary General to Pakistan at a time of his convenience.

Mr. Feltman expressed appreciation for Pakistan‘s active and positive role in United Nations system. He particularly lauded Pakistan’s contribution to international peace and security as a leading troop contributing country in UN peacekeeping operations.

During the visit, Mr. Feltman held detailed talks with the Foreign Secretary. Both sides discussed a wide range of issues including Pakistan’s priorities in United Nations, role of Pakistan as a member of UN Security Council, Pakistan’s collaboration with the UN in counter-terrorism efforts, pacific settlement of disputes and the functions/operations of the United Nations. Regional and global political and security situation was also discussed.
