US Ambassador Cameron Munter paid a courtesy call on Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, today. The two discussed a wide range of bilateral issues including re-engagement with US after a joint session of the Parliament considers the Parliamentary Committee on National Security’s recommendations on the future course for Pakistan-US bilateral relations.
The Foreign Secretary expressed satisfaction that the Parliamentary process would bring a much needed clarity and transparency in Pakistan’s ties with the US. He observed that Pakistan has had a long-standing relationship with the U.S. spanning more than six decades which constituted an important element of Pakistan’s foreign policy. The Foreign Secretary underscored that Pakistan wanted to have a relationship with the US on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interest.
