MACHINE READABLE PASSPORT (MRP)
THE APPLICANTS FOR PASSPORT RENEWAL CAN VISIT THE EMBASSY ON ANY WORKING DAY FROM MONDAY-THURSDAY (1000-1300 HOURS) WIHTOUT PRIOR APPOINTMENT
- As per decision by the Government of Pakistan, issuance of manual passports have been discontinued forthwith. Instead, Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) will be issued to every Pakistani citizen. This facility i.e. issuance of Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) has been started in Embassy of Pakistan, Warsaw, Poland with effect from 04 January 2016.
- This Embassy processes Machine Readable Passport (MRP) applications of Pakistani citizens resident in Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
- All Machine Readable Passports are issued at Islamabad by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, Government of Pakistan.
Requirements for Issuance of Machine Readable Passport (MRP)
First-time Issuance or Renewal of the Machine Readable Passport
English translation of any other supporting document not in English or Urdu.
- Personal appearance of the passport applicant at the Embassy is mandatory for on-the-spot recording of biometric data (fingerprints scanning), photographs etc.
- Original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) along with its copy (both sides). In case the applicant does not have a valid original CNIC/NICOP, he will be required to first apply for NICOP. MRP is processed after NICOP preparation.
- In case of married ladies, the CNIC must bear the name of the husband along with its copy (both sides);
- In the case of minor children above 10 years, their original Child Registration Certificate (CRC) issued from NADRA and NICOP are required along with one copy;
- Original Pakistani passport along with its copies from pages 1 to 7;
- Original valid Polish/Latvian/Estonian/Lithuania visa/resident card along with its one copy (both sides);
- Original bank deposit slip for payment of fee, clearly showing the exact amount, bank’s original stamp and Embassy’s relevant bank account number.
- To facilitate processing/decision, the Embassy may ask for fulfillment of additional requirements.
- The requirements for the renewal of a Machine Readable Passport are the same as those for its first-time issuance.
- Applicants’ thumbs and index fingers of both right and left hands should be without any indelible colouring e.g. ink or henna (mehndi) for proper fingerprints;
- It is mandatory that both ears of the applicants are visible at the time of taking photograph.
Issuance of Passport in lieu of Lost Passport
- In case of loss of passport, the following requirements in addition to the above-mentioned requirements of a new passport are mandatory

- Lost Passport Report from the local Police authorities mentioning name of the applicant and Number of previous Passport and its translation in English.
- English translation of any other supporting document not in English or Urdu
- Photocopy of the lost passport, its number, date, and place of issue, and date of its expiry.
- Fees for issuance of Passport in lieu of lost passport are given in the fee table.
- New passports in place of lost passports are issued only if the previous passport(s) are verified from the Issuing Authority.

- According to the instructions of the Government, Pakistan Missions abroad cannot extend passport facility to an applicant losing his passport for the third time.
- In cases of third time loss, an Emergency Passport can be issued to the applicant only for repatriation to Pakistan.
Note: Applicants are advised to keep their passports in safe custody so as to avoid loss of this important travel document. If the passport is lost for the third time, further renewal is subject to its approval from Directorate General Immigration and Passports, Islamabad.
Modification in a Machine-Readable Passport
- The Machine Readable Passport is issued on the basis of the applicant’s CNIC/NICOP data.
- Thus, any modification e.g., change in name, date of birth, place of birth desired in the MRP would necessitate first applying for the desired change in the CNIC/NICOP.
- Processing of modification in the MRP is done after the receipt of the applicant’s modified NICOP.
- No endorsement is permitted in the MRP. Therefore, for any change/ modification, a new MRP is issued. Please check requirements for the MRP issuance in the relevant section.
- Names of children cannot be included in parent’s passport;
Issuance of a Machine Readable Passport (MRP) to a Newly-Born Baby/Children below 18 Years
- Before issuance of passport to a newly born baby/Child below 18 years, his/her NICOP must be obtained from NADRA.
- Once the NICOP is received from NADRA, the following requirements must be completed for applying MRP:
- Personal appearance of the child at the Embassy is mandatory for photographing;
- The child must be accompanied by both parents/guardian;
- The father/mother/legal guardian will be required to sign a form which will be provided by the Embassy at the time of application. In case one of the parents is unable to come other should bring Authority Letter/No Objection Certificate (NOC) for issuance of Passport and original Travel documents of absentee parent;
- Original National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) of baby along with its copy (both sides);
- Original Pakistani Passport and CNIC or NICOP of the Father;
- Mother’s Original passport and CNIC or NICOP showing husband’s name. In case husband name is not mentioned on the passport or NICOP, original Nikah Nama or Marriage Certificate duly attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan should be provided;
- Original Birth Certificate of the baby clearly stating baby’s name, gender, date of birth, place of birth and parents names;
- English translation of any document not in English or Urdu;
- To facilitate processing/decision, the Embassy may ask for fulfilment of additional requirements.
Note: Children below the age of 15 Years are not entitled for Passport with 10 years validity. They can only be issued Machine Readable Passport (MRP) with 5 years validity.
Processing Time of MRP
- Passport applied on Normal fee is, usually, delivered within 30 working days (4-5 weeks). That applied on Urgent fee is delivered within 15 working days (Two weeks).
- The Processing Time is subject to the receipt of the prepared Passport from Directorate General if Immigration and passports Islamabad.
Application Procedure
The fee for MRP must be deposited in Embassy’s account before coming to Embassy (Please see fee chart at the end of this page).
Applications for MRPs are accepted/processed during Monday-Thursday from 1000-1230 hours except on public holidays and during Ramadan.
Upon reaching the Embassy contact Embassy reception. Present all required documents to the official at the counter. If all required documents are in order, the photograph bearing token will be issued and applicants are requested thereafter to proceed for finger prints and data entry, and if documents are not complete “new que token” is required for next turn after completing documents. So, please bring photocopies along with you for application for MRP.
Delivery of Passports
- Delivery period for normal passports is about 4 to 5 weeks, while urgent passports are delivered in 12 to 14 days approximately which includes shipment time from Islamabad to Warsaw, Poland;
- Applicants are required to collect their new passports from the Embassy in person. All the applicants will be informed telephonically or via Email when their passport will be ready to be picked up from the Embassy;
- If no call/Email is received after the given time, please confirm over telephone/Email the availability of Passport before coming to Embassy;
- The applicants should bring their previous original passport for cancellation stamp and the receipt at the time of delivery;
- The new passports can be collected every Friday from 1000-1200 hours except on public holidays and during Ramadan;
- However if due to some unavoidable circumstances, the applicants are unable to come to the Embassy in person, they can collect their new passports through a designated person who carries a signed authority letter from the applicant, his own identity and the applicant’s previous passport;
- Alternatively the applicants can obtain their new passport through DHL (with in Poland only). In such case, first they should send their previous original passport and New MRP Token/Receipt for cancellation along with return envelope with complete postal address of the applicant. Payment of the DHL will be paid by the applicant to the DHL person on receipt of shipment;
- In case of applicants residing in Latvia and Estonia, the applicants must send their previous original passport for cancellation stamp and New MRP Token along with return envelope with complete address and arrange pick up of passport by post/Courier by themselves;
- The Embassy will not be responsible for loss of passport through post/courier;
- All computerized passports are issued from Islamabad. In case of some other query call on given telephone numbers from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Important Notes, regarding issuance of Machine Readable Passport (MRP)
- a) For applicants serving in the Government of Pakistan service, no objection letter (NOC) from their parent department and authorization from Directorate General of Immigration and Passports are mandatory.
- b) In case of dual nationals, original passport of adopted country and its copy along with the Pakistani passport are required.
- c) In case of Government Officer/Employee (Federal or Provincial departments of Pakistan/Autonomous/ Semi-Autonomous Departments/ Defence Forces), must bring original NOC and authorization from Directorate General of Immigration and Passports addressed to this Embassy for Issuance of Passport. The employees who have left Government service must also bring original Resignation Acceptance/ Service Termination Certificate.
- d) If CNIC/NICOP is valid but picture does not match applicant’s current facial features, picture on NICOP must be revised prior to coming for processing of Passport.
