Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Lithuania were established on 31 May 1994. Pakistan recognized Lithuania on 08 September 1991. The two countries have maintained friendly and cooperative relations.

Political Relations

2. The bilateral relationship is marked by mutual respect, goodwill, and understanding of each other's interests. There is a mutual desire to expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, information & communication technology (ICT), and education.
3. An MoU on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultation Mechanism between the respective foreign ministries was signed on 21 February 2023 during the visit of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to Vilnius. To further expand the legal framework of bilateral cooperation, Pakistan and Lithuania stay continually engaged.
4. The two sides have already held seven rounds of bilateral political consultations. The latest (7^th) round was held in Islamabad on 24 May 2024. The Senate of Pakistan also constituted a Friendship Group for Lithuania in June 2021.

Bilateral Visits

5. Foreign Minister Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited Vilnius, Lithuania from 20-21 February 2023. This was the first-ever visit of any Foreign Minister from Pakistan to Lithuania as well as the Baltic region. The two foreign ministers agreed to explore new avenues of cooperation including connectivity and enhancing B2B contacts.
6. Previously, on the sidelines of the Davos Summit on 30 January 2009, Prime Minister Syed Yusaf Raza Gillani met the President of Lithuania, Mr. Valdas Adamkus. Lithuania’s Minister for Economy visited Pakistan on 26-28 September 1999, while Federal Minister for Communications, Arbab Muhammad Alamgir Khan visited Vilnius on 19-20 October 2009 to attend the First Conference of ASEM Transport Ministers. Mr. Kamran Michael, former Federal Minister for Human Rights also participated in an ASEM Conference, entitled “Women’s Economic Empowerment: Creating Equal Opportunities in the World of Work”, held in Vilnius from 25-26 May 2017.

Trade and Economic Cooperation

7. The bilateral trade between Pakistan and Lithuaniain 2023 was US$ 57 million. The Pakistan exports to Lithuania amounted to US$ 40.3 million and imports from Lithuania were worth US$ 16.7 million. Trade figures for the last five calendar years are given below:

8.         Around 250 Pakistanis arrive living in Lithuania (around 250) with over 190 students.
