Pakistan Ghana Relations
The diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Ghana date back to 1958. Pakistan High Commission was established in 1963. There has been intermittent closure and opening of the High Commission in later years. The High Commission for Pakistan in Accra has been re-established since 1st June 2022. The Pakistan High Commission has worked towards strengthening bilateral relations in political, diplomatic, economic, social and cultural spheres. It has taken a number of steps to re-energize this relationship.
Economic relations between Pakistan and Ghana are deepening. The first ever MOU establishing the Joint Business Council between Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce (FPCCI) and Ghana National Chambers of Commerce (GNCCI) was signed on 23.02.2023 at Lahore. There is regular exchange of trade delegations between the two countries. The total bilateral trade volume of US $ 65.2 million (2023) includes Pakistan's exports worth $ 57.2 million to Ghana. Pakistan’s imports from Ghana stand at US $ 8 million (2023). Pakistan’s major exports include rice, linen, cotton/textile products, ethyl alcohol, tractors and cement clinkers. Ghana is a potential market for export of cereals, rice, textile products, light engineering and appliances, pharmaceutical and surgical goods, chemicals, food products, confectionery, etc.
Pakistan and Ghana hold similar views on global issues. They have supported each other at international fora. Both countries stand for a rule based international order, respect of international law and Charter of the United Nations. Both countries advocate a fairtrading system and economic order at international level.
The Pakistani community is contributing to the development in Ghana through their businesses and skillset.
Both countries are committed to promoting bilateral relations. They are working together on a number of areas and initiatives.
