An Urdu Department exists at the Tajik National University in Dushanbe. Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) was established by the Embassy in May 2009 to facilitate Tajik students in their research work in Urdu and Pakistan studies. The Mission keeps on adding more books to the library at PSC from time to time.
Mirsaid Mirshakar, a Tajik poet and writer, introduced Allama Iqbal to Tajikistan during the 1950s. Tajiks hold Allama Iqbal in high esteem as a saint, great poet and philosopher of the twentieth century. Iqbal Society was established by the Embassy of Pakistan and Writers Union of Tajikistan in 1995. Iqbal Academy Lahore gifted one thousand copies of Kulyat-e-Iqbal written in Cyrillic script to Tajik Government in 2004.
Three famous Tajik scholars from Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Mr. Ali Muhammadi Khorasani, Ms. Sharafnisa Poladova and Mr. Habibullah Rajabov translated Kulyat-e-Iqbal into Cyrillic language. The book was launched in June 2013. With the support of the Embassy of Pakistan, 1000 copies of Cyrillic version of Kulyat-e-Iqbal in Tajikistan were printed. In recognition of his services, President of Pakistan conferred on Mr. Ali Muhammadi Khorasani the award of “Pride of Performance”.
The Urdu Department at Tajik National University, Dushanbe in coordination with the Embassy annually commemorates Iqbal Day on 09 November. On Iqbal Day in 2016, a book titled “Iqbal-Shanasai”, which is compiled by a noted Tajik scholar, Professor Khorasani (Pakistan Pride of Performance-2015) was launched.
In April 2017, the Embassy of Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Study Centre launched a book on famous Pakistani Poet Hafeez Jallandhari, author of Pakistan National Anthem, written in Tajik language by Tajik Academician Professor Kurbanov Haydar, In-charge of Pakistan Study Centre at Tajik National University. Two books (Tajik to Urdu and Urdu to Tajik language) written by Dr. Hayder Qurbanov were launched on Iqbal Day on 10 November 2019.
