Pakistan and the Lao PDR established diplomatic relations on 15 July 1965. Pakistan and Laos possess very friendly relations and there exists a lot of potential for cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali paid an official visit to Lao PDR from 21-23 April 2004 at the invitation of Bounnhang Vorachith, the Prime Minister of Laos. In 2012, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf visited Vientiane on 4-5 November 2012 to attend the 9th ASEM Meeting.
Pakistan and Laos established the mechanism to hold Bilateral Political Consultations and Cooperation in 2004.
The current bilateral trade between the two countries stands at 1,731,000 USD. Pakistan exports medicaments, instruments and textiles to Laos and imports electric machinery, footwear, and fertilizers from Laos.
Laos actively participates in the capacity-building courses offered by Pakistan in the field of diplomacy, banking, and railways.
There exists strong collaboration between Pakistan and Laos on international fora. Both countries render support to each other’s candidatures in international organizations.
