President Karzai receives Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar

President Hamid Karzai of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, on a two-day visit to Pakistan, received Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar today at his Hotel in Islamabad.
Minister of State Khar warmly welcomed the President on his visit to Pakistan. She underscored the importance of intensified contacts at the leadership level between the two countries to translate the immense goodwill into practical measures for promoting, inter alia, economic development in the region, enhancing trans-regional connectivity through projects such as TAPI. She also underscored the importance of working together on ROZs; for effectively utilizing the established mechanism of the Joint Economic Commission; and for implementing the Afghan Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement.
President Karzai referred to the importance of fighting the common challenges of terrorism and militancy to ensure peace and stability in the region. He also agreed that the Joint Economic Commission should meet soon to address common development challenges. He welcomed the launching of APTTA and the first meeting of the Joint Commission for Reconciliation and Peace in Afghanistan which will be held during his visit on 11 June 2011.
