The 78th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with full fervor and zeal in the Maldives. A Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held at the High Commission of Pakistan in Maldives on 14 August 2024. The event was attended by a large number of Pakistanis and Maldivian fellows.
The function started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. H.E. Vice Admiral
(R) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani, High Commissioner hoisted the National Flag to the tune of the National Anthem. Addressing the gathering, the High Commissioner congratulated the Pakistanis on the Independence Day. While highlighting importance of the Day; the High Commissioner paid rich tribute to the father of Nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders of Pakistan Freedom Movement whose visionary leadership and sacrifices made the dream of homeland, Pakistan a reality. He also mentioned about current progress and development and highlighted the available potentials in various sectors in Pakistan.
High Commissioner remembered the brave people of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine who have been fighting for their right to self-determination for over seven decades and are facing the worst form of state atrocities. He re-affirmed that Pakistan shall continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of IIOJK until they achieve their universal right to self-determination.
Earlier, Deputy Head of Mission Zulqurnain Ahmad welcomed the guests. While appreciating their national spirit, he extended heartfelt felicitations to the Pakistani nationals in the Maldives. He also paid gratitude to the distinguished guests, brothers and sisters from Maldives, who joined the ceremony. The Children, dressed in cultural dresses, sang national songs and presented performances. A cake was cut to celebrate the happy occasion of Independence Day of Pakistan.
