“Iqbal Day” was celebrated in the National University of Tajikistan, Dushanbe to commemorate the 147th birth anniversary of the great poet/writer and philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
Professor Ghafforzoda Ilyosjon Ghaffor, Vice Rector National University of Tajikistan, in introductory remarks, shared his views on Iqbal’s poetry.
Ambassador Muhammad Saeed Sarwar, in his remarks, briefly touched upon the various themes of the Iqbal’s poetry which included concepts of self discovery, self reliance and determination. He underlined that Allama Iqbal through his poetry played a critical role in the political awakening of Muslims of the sub-continent that helped them to achieve a separate homeland.
The Ambassador highlighted that Allama Iqbal was a profound thinker who inculcated in Muslims the ethos of unity through his writing and poetry. In order to overcome modern day challenges, he emphasised on seeking guidance from Allama Iqbal’s philosophy. The Ambassador also underscored that the profound ideas and poetic brilliance of Dr. Muhammad Iqbal still galvanise its readers in the modern world.
Ambassador Sherali Jonon, Head of Asia and Pacific Division of the Tajikistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also shared his views on the thoughts and philosophy of Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, which are greatly appreciated in Tajikistan.
On this occasion, a number of speakers also paid rich tribute to Allama Iqbal and highlighted the universality of his message, which continues to inspire people around the world.
Students of the Urdu Department, Tajik National University recited verses of Allama Muhammad Iqbal in Urdu, while Pakistani students studying in Tajikistan recited verses in Tajik language.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Pakistan Dushanbe and Pakistan Study Center. A large number of scholars, writers, academicians and students attended the event.
