The Embassy of Pakistan in Dushanbe organized an online Business-to-Business (B2B) meeting connecting leading Pakistani potato exporters with Tajik importers to enhance bilateral trade in agricultural products, particularly potatoes. The event was held in collaboration with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The meeting highlighted Pakistan’s strong potato harvest for the current season, which reached approximately 12 million tons—an increase of 25% compared to the previous year. Central Asian markets account for nearly 50% of Pakistan’s total potato exports, underscoring the region’s strategic importance. In 2025, Tajikistan imported potatoes worth USD 13.6 million, of which Pakistan supplied USD 8.3 million, capturing a 61% market share and reaffirming its position as Tajikistan’s leading supplier.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Athar Hussain Khokhar, Director General (Agro & Food Division), TDAP, encouraged Pakistani exporters to further explore Tajikistan’s market potential and establish a sustained commercial presence. Mr. Nasimjon Anvarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan, commended the Embassy’s initiative and assured the Chamber’s full support in promoting stronger trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Rohail Nazir, Trade and Investment Attaché of the Embassy of Pakistan in Dushanbe, delivered a comprehensive market briefing covering customs tariffs, phytosanitary requirements, logistics corridors, and other regulatory considerations relevant to exporters.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Rizwan Gul, Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of Pakistan, emphasized that the reduced role of intermediaries during the current season presents an opportunity for direct engagement between exporters and importers. He encouraged Pakistani companies to consider establishing representative offices in Tajikistan to streamline imports, strengthen distribution networks, and enhance market responsiveness.
The meeting concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, enabling participants to discuss specific trade barriers, logistical arrangements, and next steps for commercial collaboration.
