H.E. Vice Admiral (R) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani HI (M) assumed responsibilities as the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of the Maldives on 10 November 2022. His previous appointment was the Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Pakistan and retired after 39 years of meritorious service in Pakistan Navy.
Vice Admiral (R) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani joined Pakistan Navy on
28 July 1982 and was commissioned in Operations branch of Pakistan Navy in 1984. The Flag Officer has vast experience of command and staff appointments within Pakistan and abroad. As Flag Officer, he has served as Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Commander Coast, Chief of Staff Personnel, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations, training & Evaluation, Personnel and Projects) and Naval Secretary. At sea, the flag Officer has vast experience of serving onboard various sea going platforms of Pakistan Navy including Command of Auxiliary Support Ship PNS MOAWIN. His field and staff appointments include Chief Staff Officer to Commander Pakistan Fleet, Director Maritime Affairs & Environmental Control and Director Information Warfare. At diplomatic front, Flag Officer has served as Naval Attaché (Pakistan) in Washington DC, United States of America.
The Flag Officer is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College and National Defence University, Islamabad. He holds Master degrees in Defence & Strategic Studies from NDU Pakistan and Masters in Military Operational Research from Cranfield University, UK.
In recognition of his meritorious services, he was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) in 2010 and Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) in 2016.
