Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar participated in the high-level briefing of the United Nations Security Council on Palestine, in New York today. The meeting was chaired by the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary in her capacity as President of the Security Council.
In his remarks, the DPM/FM strongly condemned Israel's continued ceasefire violations, illegal settlement activities, and attempts to alter the status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly its recent illegal decisions and measures to expand control over the Occupied West Bank, including designating of its land as "state land". He called for the immediate halt and reversal of these actions.
The DPM/FM also emphasized the need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, full implementation of Security Council resolution 2803, scaled-up humanitarian assistance, and the early commencement of Gaza's recovery and reconstruction. He noted that it was in pursuit of these objectives that Pakistan, as part of the Group of Eight Arab and Islamic countries, joined the Board of Peace (BOP) in line with resolution 2803.
The DPM/FM expressed the hope that the BOP under the framework of resolution 2803 would lead to concrete steps towards the implementation of a permanent ceasefire; further scaling up of humanitarian aid; reconstruction of Gaza; and realization of the right to self-determination of the people of Palestine through a credible, time-bound political process, consistent with international legitimacy and relevant UN resolutions- resulting in an independent, sovereign and contiguous state of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
The DPM/FM also reaffirmed Pakistan's readiness to contribute to all diplomatic initiatives, including President Trump's Peace Plan, the BoP, the High-Level Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Global Alliance for the Two-State Solution. He emphasized that these efforts must be mutually reinforcing in the interest of our shared objective of a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
