Tahir Andrabi is presently working as Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Additional Foreign Secretary for Arms Control, Disarmament & International Security (ACDIS) and Strategic Communication, Policy Planning & Public Diplomacy (SC, PP & PD) Divisions. He also heads Pakistan National Authority under Chemical Weapons Convention.
Prior to this, he served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Malta (2021 to 2023).
He was Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland from 2017-2021.
Ambassador Andrabi has served in the Embassy of Pakistan, Beijing, China in two stints: as Counsellor (2013-15) and as Second Secretary (2001-05).
From 2009-2013, he was posted to the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations, New York as Counsellor, including as Alternate Political Coordinator at the UN Security Council during Pakistan’s term from 2012-13.
In his previous stints at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he worked as Director Foreign Minister's Office (2015-17), Director India (2015), Director Foreign Secretary's Office (2008-9) and Deputy Director Foreign Secretary's Office (2006-7). Earlier, he was also Desk Officer/Deputy Director dealing with Africa, India and Kashmir Affairs in varying times from 1999-2006.
Ambassador Andrabi holds a degree from King Edward Medical University, Lahore, Pakistan; Graduate Certification in Chinese Language from Beijing Language & Culture University, China and; Fellowship from Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA.
He is married, with a son and a daughter.
