Today, Deputy Prime Minister / Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with H.E. Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China in New York.
The Deputy Prime Minister / Foreign Minister is visiting New York on the invitation of Foreign Minister Wang Yi to attend the UNSC Open Debate on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centered International System,” held on 26 May under China’s Presidency of the Security Council.
He also participated today in the meeting of the Group of Friends on Global Governance on 28 May 2026, under the theme “Reforming and Improving Global Governance, Working Together to Address Global Challenges,” chaired by Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The two leaders felicitated each other on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and expressed satisfaction that the milestone was commemorated in a befitting manner through the exchange of high-level visits, joint receptions, and commemorative activities. They also expressed satisfaction over the close diplomatic coordination between the leadership of the two countries.
In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister / Foreign Minister recalled the high-level visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Hangzhou and Beijing, China from 23–26 May 2026, during which leadership-level engagements were held, along with discussions on economic cooperation, CPEC, and the broader bilateral partnership.
The Deputy Prime Minister / Foreign Minister noted that the recent convening of two rounds of Party-to-Party mechanisms — the Pakistan-China Political Parties Forum and the CPEC Joint Consultative Mechanism — in Beijing helped strengthen linkages between major political parties of Pakistan and the Communist Party of China. He appreciated China’s continued support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national dignity, and independent development path. He also acknowledged China’s support during Pakistan’s economic stabilization efforts, including assistance at international financial institutions. He reaffirmed that Pakistan remains firmly committed to the One-China principle and will continue to support China on issues concerning its core interests.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscored that China attaches great importance to the development of China-Pakistan relations. He expressed China’s desire to further strengthen strategic communication, carry forward the traditional friendship, and deepen all-dimensional cooperation. He emphasized China’s commitment to accelerating the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era, so that bilateral relations may better benefit the peoples of both countries and contribute to regional peace and security.
At the regional and international level, the two leaders agreed to continue working closely for the promotion of multilateralism, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and a rules-based international order.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and to further strengthening the bonds of friendship for future generations.
