The 78th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with respect and fervor in Ghana. Pakistan High Commission organized different events in this regard.
Flag Hoisting Ceremony
On 14th August, a flag hoisting ceremony was held in the Pakistan High Commission in Accra. High Commissioner for Pakistan to Ghana, Her Excellency Farhat Ayesha hoisted national flag to the tune of the national anthem. She welcomed the honorable members of Pakistani community and other friends.
The President, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan conveyed special messages felicitating Pakistani diaspora on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day. They acknowledged that overseas Pakistani always stood for the development and progress of the country.
In her address, the High Commissioner Farhat Ayesha paid rich tribute to the dynamic leadership of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, sacrifices of founding fathers and workers of Pakistan movement for attaining an independent Pakistan. She emphasized that it was responsibility of the current generation to raise the country to glory. She apprised about efforts of the High Commission in fostering political, diplomatic, economic and social relations between Pakistan and Ghana.
High Commissioner Ayesha appreciated the Pakistani diaspora in Ghana for contributing to the development of Ghana and Pakistan through their hard work. She said that diaspora was playing key role in bringing the two countries together. She encouraged them to earn respect for their country with their actions. She assured the diaspora about full support of the High Commission in their service.
The guests prayed for the prosperity of Pakistan and for freedom of the oppressed people in Palestine and Kashmir.
Azadi Festival
On 18th August, an Azadi (Independence) Festival was held at the Pakistan House in Accra.
A large number of Pakistani community residing in Ghana and their Ghanaian friends participated in the festival to celebrate the Independence of Pakistan.
High Commissioner Farhat Ayesha greeted the participants in connection with Independence Day celebrations. She expressed satisfaction at the promotion of bilateral ties between Pakistan and Ghana. She observed that friendship between Pakistan and Ghana has grown from strength to strength each passing year. “The two communities have played big in bringing the two countries closer through social and business ties’’, she added.
A number of games and educational activities were organized for the children. The program included a quiz program, speeches and an art competition. Participants sang national songs to express love for their homeland. Many participants wore green and white colored Pakistani attire reflecting colors of their national flag.
The participants were treated with traditional Pakistani cuisine.
It was a day of fun filled activities for Pakistani community in Ghana.
