Ambassador Javed Ahmed Umrani had a meeting with Secretary of State of Tunisia for Foreign Affairs, H.E Mr. Mohamed Ben Ayed, at his office on 06 December 2024. A letter of Congratulations on re-election of Tunisian President Kais Saied from our President, Asif Ali Zardar was handed over during the meeting.
Ambassador Umrani thanked Tunisian Secretary of State for this meeting. During the meeting, both sides discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on issues of regional and global importance. They agreed to enhance bilateral engagement to further strengthen cooperation in political, trade, economic, cultural and education domains. There was a unanimity of views to further optimize bilateral channels of cooperation and hold the next rounds of Bilateral Political Consultations co-led by Foreign Secretary/Secretary of State and Joint Commission (JC) on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation in Islamabad, chaired by the respective Foreign Ministers.
Both sides agreed that to boost bilateral trade and economic relations, early conclusion of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) is needed. Ambassador stressed on the need to improve our excellent bilateral political relation to next level through more people to people contact, educational collaboration and to improve business ties by increasing trade and investment in each other countries.
Recalling historical and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Tunisia, both sides appreciated cooperation between the two countries at the United Nations, the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and other multilateral forums. The Ambassador briefed Tunisian Secretary of State on the precarious human rights and security situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). To this Secretary of State shared Tunisia’s standard position and its support for the rights to self-determination of the Kashmiri people at the UNSC and OIC and stressed the need to find a lasting solution for the ongoing war in Gaza , Palestine issue and IIOJK dispute in accordance with the requirements of international law and human rights principles.
