On the occasion of World Environment Day, Pakistan joins the international community in reflecting on the urgent need to protect our planet and strengthen our collective response to the climate crisis.
Despite being among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, Pakistan continues to demonstrate resilience in the face of recurring floods, accelerating glacial melt, droughts, heatwaves, and rising water stress.
It is essential that we sustain and deepen international cooperation to address the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation, guided by the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.
At the national level, the Government of Pakistan is committed to placing environmental protection at the centre of its policy priorities. A key milestone in this regard has been the constitutional recognition of the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment as a fundamental right of every citizen.
We are also advancing climate-resilient housing, accelerating the transition to clean energy, and promoting environmentally responsible and sustainable construction practices. At the same time, the scale of the climate challenge underscores the importance of collective global action.
In this regard, I would also like to express our appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan for hosting this year’s World Environment Day. We commend Azerbaijan for its leadership in fostering international cooperation and constructive dialogue on these critical global challenges.
