Pakistan Day was celebrated with respect and fervor in Ghana. The High Commission for Pakistan in Ghana organized a reception at Pakistan House in connection with this occasion on March 22, 2025. The Honorable Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs of Ghana, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
The Honorable Minister Ahmed Ibrahim expressed that Ghana and Pakistan have maintained a friendship based on mutual respect, shared values, and a dedication to global collaboration. He thanked the Government of Pakistan for implementing of the “Engage Africa Initiative”. He applauded Pakistan's commitment to expanding trade, facilitating more business-to-business exchanges, and implementing an online Visa-on-arrival platform for tourists and business people from Ghana. He also acknowledged that beyond trade, Pakistan is well valued for its significant support in Ghana's capacity building. Numerous Ghanaian officials have benefitted from Pakistani training programs in defence, diplomacy, and other technical fields.
Mr. Noor Nabi, Chargé d’ Affaires of Pakistan welcomed the Honorable Minister and other dignitaries. He briefed about the history of Pakistan Day when the Muslims of India committed themselves to achieve an independent sovereign country Pakistan. He traced the 67 years old friendship of Pakistan with Ghana and underlined that bilateral relationships were based on trust, mutual support and understanding. He outlined that political engagement between the two countries had increased since the re-establishment of Pakistan High Commission in Accra in June 2022. Bilateral commercial relations had expanded. There had been exchange of business delegations from both sides. Ghana is the second largest trading partner of Pakistan in West Africa, with bilateral trade totaling $108.7 million in 2024, comprising $76.5 million in exports and $32.2 million in imports, he said. Mr. Noor Nabi, Chargé d’ Affaires commended the role of Pakistani diaspora in bringing the two countries together through their contribution to the economy of Ghana and philanthropic services.
The reception was attended by the Ambassadors, High Commissioners, members of the diplomatic corps based in Ghana, politicians, senior official of the Ghanaian government, other dignitaries and members of Pakistani diaspora. Pakistani cuisine was served for the Iftar dinner.
Pakistan Day was celebrated with great respect and enthusiasm in Ghana. A flag hoisting ceremony was held, where Mr. Noor Nabi, Chargé d’ Affaires raised the flag.
