As you know that there was a Press Release yesterday from the Prime Minister's Office regarding the investigation being carried out on the Pathankot incident. There are also reports that the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammad Maulana Masood Azhar has also been taken into protective custody. Can you confirm that this has happened? (Hamza Ameer - NDTV)
Answer
I have nothing to add to the statement that was issued yesterday after a high level meeting.
Question
There have been media reports that Foreign Secretary level talks with India have been postponed, if not cancelled. My second question is that National Security Advisor Mr. Nasir Janjua is in Paris to meet with his Indian counterpart. Can you update us? (Zargoon Shah - Geo TV))
Answer
Both countries are in contact to firm up the date of meeting between the two Foreign Secretaries.
I am not aware of any meeting between the National Security Advisors of the two countries.
Question
Reference the statement that was issued yesterday from the Prime Minister Office saying that we have decided to send investigation team to Pathankot. When will this team be visiting India? Has any date been fixed for the visit of this team?
Secondly, can you share more details about the attack that took place near the Pakistani Consulate in Jalalabad? Who were the elements behind this attack? Has Afghan Government shared any initial information regarding this attack? (Mateen Haider - Dawn News)
Supplementary Question
A similar attack took place today in Jakarata. Any comments?
Answer
I have nothing to add to the statement that was issued yesterday after a high level meeting. If I have any additional information, I will share it with you.
We issued a statement yesterday with regard to the terrorist attack on Pakistan Consulate General in Jalalabad. We have requested the Afghan authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and share the details of the investigation with us. We will be in a position to say something only after the outcome of the investigation is shared with us by the Afghan authorities.
We condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We also condemn the terrorist attacks that took place this morning in Jakarta.
Question
Has Pakistan shared with India through diplomatic channels the action that Pakistan has taken in the context of Pathankot incident?
Secondly, you have just said that you are not aware of the arrest of the Maulana Massod Azhar. Should we infer that you reject the news item that he has been detained? (Shaukat Paracha - Aaj TV)
Answer
I chose my words very carefully. I said that I was not aware of the arrest.
The information provided by India was referred to in the Press Release that was issued yesterday after the high level meeting. In addition to that, I can only say that the two governments are in touch.
Question
Can it be said that after Pathankot attack this time the attitude of Indian Government has been positive and responsible? (Khawaja Nayyer Iqbal - Kashmir Post)
Answer
We have said repeatedly that terrorism is a common problem and that there is a need to eliminate it. It is expected that in the wake of any terrorist incident the two governments would work closely to deal with the situation. Our objective is to eliminate terrorism from our region. A cooperative approach is necessary for achieving this objective.
Question
There was news circulating during last week about a change in the constitutional status of Gilgit Baltistan on the demand of Chinese Government. Regarding CPEC also there are reservations shown by the Chinese Government in view of the protests of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister. Have these reservations been officially conveyed to the Foreign Office? (Shabbir Waghara - PTV World)
Answer
I will not comment on media reports. All issues relating to Gilgit Baltistan are being discussed by the Committee on Constitutional Reforms in Gilgit Baltistan.
As to the other part of your question, we remain in touch with the Chinese authorities with regard to all issues concerning the implementation of CPEC projects. Several meetings have been held in Pakistan as well to discuss various issues relating to the CPEC projects.
Question
Some Parliamentarians have asked Pakistani Government to send a delegation to Iran and Saudi Arabia to ease the tensions. Is there any plan or decision by Pakistani Government to send such a delegation?
Secondly, some foreign media reports are quoting the Army Chief of Pakistan as saying that Iran will be removed from the map, if there is any threat to Saudi Arabia. Is the report reliable? (Raza Munafi - IRNA)
Answer
I am surprised that you should ask such a question at this forum. Feelings of the people of Pakistan for the friendly people of Iran are well known. We want to enhance our relations with Iran in various fields of mutual interest.
However, I wish to underscore that we have affirmed that any threat to Saudi Arabia's territorial integrity will evoke strong response from Pakistan.
I have no information as to whether any delegation is going to Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Question
Is Pakistan in touch with New Delhi for sending a team to investigate Pathankot attack? (Waqas Rafique - Capital TV)
Answer
I have already responded to this question.
Question
The Opposition expressed dissatisfaction yesterday over the briefing given by the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz. Would you like to comment on that?
Secondly, Indian media has claimed that the date for Foreign Secretary level talks with Pakistan is being advanced with the consent of Pakistani Government. Is it true?
Answer
The briefing by the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs was held in an in camera session. It would, therefore, not be appropriate for me to comment on its contents.
As I said earlier, Pakistan and India are in touch to firm up date for the Foreign Secretary level talks.
Question
DPRK leader has said that his country will expand its nuclear program. Early this month, North Korea also conducted a nuclear test. How does Pakistan look at these developments? (Amjad Ali - PTV)
Answer
Pakistan has already expressed deep concern about the reports of a nuclear test conducted by DPRK on 6 January 2016. We deplore any action that undermines the objective of nuclear weapons free Korean Peninsula. Pakistan strongly believes that all countries should comply with their respective international obligations.
Question
I just want to know the Foreign Office assessment of the threat level to its Missions in Afghanistan due to the presence of Daesh. Is there heightened security being provided to Pakistani Missions now in Afghanistan? (Qasim Nauman - Wall Street Journal)
Answer
We remain in touch with the Afghan authorities over the issue of security of our premises and personnel. Yesterday, Afghan President phoned our Prime Minister in the wake of terrorist attack on Pakistan's Consulate General in Jalalabad. He assured that all steps would be taken for ensuring the security of Pakistan's Missions and Embassy personnel in Afghanistan.
