Honorable Chair
Secretary-General,
Ministers,
Excellencies,
Pakistan warmly welcomes you, Madam Secretary-General, to your first CFAMM since assuming office on 1st April 2025. We commend the energy and purpose with which you have approached your mandate and we appreciate that, within a few short months, you have expedited the implementation of the outcomes of CHOGM-2024 and reinvigorated the Commonwealth reform processes.
Pakistan remains a steadfast supporter of the Commonwealth and is committed to playing its part in strengthening this unique family of nations. We fully support your efforts to re-orient the organization to respond effectively to the evolving global context and to ensure it continues to deliver tangible benefits to all its members.
The world continues to grapple with multiple and overlapping crises – from conflicts and fragility to climate disasters, economic vulnerabilities, and disruptive technologies. Pakistan believes the Commonwealth must continue to serve as a platform for peace-building and dialogue, where consensus and cooperation can help resolve disputes and promote understanding.
The climate crisis is an existential threat to many of our members. Pakistan, as one of the most climate-vulnerable countries, has experienced this reality firsthand. We strongly support the Commonwealth’s work on climate action, adaptation, and financing and call for sustained focus on helping member states build resilience and secure climate justice.
We also value the Commonwealth’s unique ability to bring together 56 diverse members in advancing youth empowerment, digital transformation, enhanced trade, and entrepreneurship. Pakistan is proud to lead on the Commonwealth youth agenda, ensuring that our young people are empowered to shape a more prosperous and peaceful future. We will also remain at the forefront of advancing the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda and will continue to champion initiatives that strengthen digital, physical, regulatory, and supply chain links across the Commonwealth.
In conclusion, Pakistan stands ready to work closely with you, Madam Secretary General, and all Member States to advance our shared priorities – peace, sustainable development, climate resilience, and inclusive growth, so that the Commonwealth continues to remain relevant and impactful for generations to come.
Thank you.
Islamabad
