Trade and investment/Commercial Relations:

• Due to ongoing crisis and economic sanctions, Pak-Syria commercial relations are far below their potential. Syria can serve a hub to our products. Various trade fairs and exhibitions are held in Syria throughout the year.
• The current Syrian crisis, sanctions on Syria by the US and the West, ban on bank transfers, continuous depreciation of the local currency, ever soaring inflation and contraction of the Syrian economy could be attributed as major hurdles in promotion of our bilateral trade.
• The major items of export to Syria could be: rice, surgical instruments, textile, light machinery, pharmaceutical products, pine-nut, tarpaulin, fiber, yarn and chemicals, batteries, floor tiles etc. Pakistan’s imports include wool fleece, wool, yarn, polyester fiber and fertilizer etc.
• An MoU on establishment of Joint Working Group (JWG) between Pakistan and Syria on Trade and Economic Affairs has been signed by both countries in October, 2021.
• The 1^st JWG technical meeting between the both Ministries was held virtually on 23 December 2021 at the Additional Secretary level.
• Reconstruction and investment in Syria can be an opportunity to promote and enhance economic relationship, notwithstanding the present economic and political impasses Syria is going through.
• Pakistan Mission is encouraging business community to engage their Syrian counterparts.
