Mauritius is the only African country with which Pakistan has signed a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) on July 30, 2007. The PTA was an outcome of negotiations at the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Trade, established in 2004. The 10th session of the JWG between Pakistan and Mauritius took place in July 2014 in Mauritius, and both sides are working to formalize dates for the 11th session of JWG on Trade during 2024. In 2022, Pakistan exported goods worth US$ 34.25 million to Mauritius. The main products exported from Pakistan were rice and cereals, woven cotton, textile & clothing and packaged medicaments etc. In 2022 Mauritius exported goods worth US$1.6 million to Pakistan. The main products exported from Mauritius to Pakistan were scrap iron & steel and other commodities.
There is increasing economic engagement in various sectors like textiles, pharmaceuticals, rice, sports goods and cement. There is regular participation of Mauritian businessmen and women in trade fairs in Pakistan like TEXPO, Health & Engineering Show, and Food and Agriculture Expo. Six trade delegations, in various sectors, participated from Mauritius in trade fairs/exhibitions, organized by the TDAP during 2022-2023. In February 2022, the High Commission sent a 16-member business delegation from Mauritius to participate in 1st Pakistan Engineering & Healthcare Show’22 held in Lahore. Another business delegation from Mauritius participated in 3rd Pak-Africa Trade Development Conference, held in Johannesburg from November 29– December 1, 2022. In January 2023, a delegation from Mauritius attended a ‘Pakistan Horti Expo 2023’ at Expo Center, Lahore. A 5-member business delegation from Mauritius participated in TEXPO-2023, held in Karachi from May 26-28, 2023. Moreover, the General Manager, Agricultural Marketing Board of Mauritius attended 1st edition of International Food and Agro Exhibition held in Karachi from August 10-12, 2023.In 2022-23, six business delegations participated in various expos organized by TDAP in Pakistan.
